Reserves are currently OPEN. The game will be opening March 1. Reserves will remain open until the mods deem it necessary to begin a week-long monthly apping period.
All reserves are currently good until two weeks after the game opens. Once the game is open reserves will be good for two weeks from the time of reservation.
Please check the comments below and the Taken Characters page before reserving a character.
You may not reserve or app an Unappable Character.
Please see Forced: The Guide for lists of special characters and character types.
You do not need to reserve a character in order to be allowed to app them. Reserving simply assures that no one else will app that character in the time it takes you to write the app.

Here's a quick reference on the character types:

Native: Currently not allowed. Please see the game guide for more information. A Star Wars character who is taken from the same point in canon that the game is currently at. This character might or might not be on the high-profile characters list. If they are they'll require a special application.
Non-native: A Star Wars character who is from a different point in canon than the game is currently at. If this character is also on the un-appable list there's a chance that your app might not be accepted. Please read Forced: the Guide for more infomation.
Panfandom: A character from any canon other than Star Wars.
AU Panfandom: An AU version of a character from any canon other than Star Wars.
OC: An original character that you created from an original world that you created.
